COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE AND ANIMAL SCIENCE

Admissions and Requirements

All candidates wishing to gain admission for any of the Higher National Diploma programmes should have National Diploma with at least lower credit/merit pass in any relevant accredited Agricultural programmes plus minimum of one (1) year working experience post-graduation. The accredited Agricultural programmes referred to include the Agricultural Technology (General Agriculture), Agricultural Engineering Technology, Home and Rural Economics, Animal Health and Production Technology, offered by the Division of Agricultural Colleges or a college of related discipline in Nigeria or its equivalent abroad. Candidates must in addition possess credit passes in the relevant four subjects at WAEC (GCE), NECO, National Technical Certificate or Teachers Grade II, which are the prerequisites for admission into the National Diploma programme.

HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA in Animal Health Technology, Animal Production Technology, and Pasture and Range Management

The candidate should have at least lower credit/merit pass in any relevant accredited Agricultural programme plus a minimum of one year working experience after graduation. Candidate must have credit passes in the relevant four (4) subjects including Mathematics, English Language, Chemistry or Physics and Agricultural science or Biology at WAEC (GCE), NECO and NABTEB.

NATIONAL DIPLOMA in Animal Health and Production Technology.

Entry requirements into the program are credit passes in four relevant subjects at WAEC ordinary level, NECO, National technical Certificate or teachers Grade II at not more than two seating's or a combination of any of the two e.g., WAEC plus NECO. The four subjects include Biology, Agriculture Science, and any other three from the following: Chemistry, English Language, Mathematics/Statistics, Geography, Economics, and Physics. Apart from the four credits, at least noncredit passes in Mathematics, English language, and Chemistry are compulsory.

PRE- NATIONAL DIPLOMA (SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY)

At least candidates should have noncredit passes in the subjects given under various courses in the National Diploma above

CERTIFICATE COURSES

A minimum of two noncredit passes in any of the science subjects at WAEC, NECO, or both.

KABBA COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE

Admissions and Requirements

All candidates wishing to apply for any of the Higher National Diploma Programmes should have National Diploma with at least Lower Credit/Merit pass in any relevant accredited Agricultural programmes plus a minimum of one (1) year working experience after graduation. The accredited Agricultural programme referred here includes the Agricultural Technology.

Candidate must also have credit passes in the relevant four subjects at WAEC (GCE), NECO, National Technical Certificate which are pre-requisites for admission into the National Diploma. The specific requirements for the individual programmes are as follows:

The General entry requirements for the HND Programme
       a)   Four (4) ordinary level passes at the credit level in subjects relevant to the proposed programmes of study at not more than two sittings as specified for admission into accredited ND programmes.
       b)   A minimum of a low credit pass in the cognate ND examination; and HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA
       c)   A minimum of one year cognate work experience for the ND diplomats with Lower credit, Upper credit or Distinction grade while an ND diploma with Pass Grade requires two or more years of cognate work experience before he/she may be considered for admission into the HND programme
AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION AND MANAGEMENT
Aim

To produce technically competent agricultural manpower to carry out extension work among rural populace and also carry out administrative and financial management of agricultural enterprises

Objectives
       i)   Carry out extension work among the rural populace
       ii)   Identify signs of disease processes in animals and necessary first aid processes.
       iii)   Organize agricultural cooperatives and exhibitions
       iv)   Carry out financial survey and evaluation of a proposed or existing agricultural enterprise and make recommendations
       v)   Provide administrative leadership in all sizes of agricultural enterprises.
       vi)   Market farm products and farming tools and equipment.
       vii)   Assist in Agricultural Management research
CROP PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY
Aim

The programme is designed to produce technologists who will be able to carry out soil survey and subsequent field and laboratory analysis to determine its fertility and apply measures to improve on or retain the soil fertility for agronomic use.

Objectives
       a)   Carry out soil survey and soil classification
       b)   Determine soil fertility by laboratory analysis
       c)   Carry out biological, chemical and physical analysis of soil in the laboratory
       d)   Apply agronomic measures to retain and improve on soil fertility
       e)   Assist in research on soil fertility and improvement.
Admission Requirement

Candidate must have National Diploma in Agricultural Technology (General Agriculture)

HORTICULTURE AND LANDSCAPE TECHNOLOGY.
Aim

The programme is designed to produce higher horticultural technicians who will be adequately equipped to apply their knowledge to increased production of fruits and vegetables; and other horticultural plants and will also be able to apply their knowledge in landscape design techniques and development

Objectives
       a)   Plan, establish and manage commercial horticultural nurseries
       b)   Plan, establish and operate commercial vegetable gardens
       c)   Plan and establish parks and gardens.
       d)   Design, plan and execute the landscaping of premises, highways, walkways, etc. for aesthetics, erosion control, etc.
Admission Requirement

Candidate must have National Diploma in Agricultural Technology (General Agriculture)

NATIONAL DIPLOMA
Aim

The programme is designed to produce agricultural technicians capable of applying modern farming techniques in direct agricultural production.

Objectives
       a)   Assist in planning and laying out al sizes of crops, animal and fish farms
       b)   Employ modern techniques in the rearing of different types of livestock on large scale
       c)   Employ modern techniques in Land preparation, planting, management and harvesting of food and cash crops
       d)   Assist in processing and storage of all agricultural produce
       e)   Assist in agricultural extension services
Admission Requirement

Entry requirements into National Diploma Agricultural echnology and National Diploma Horticulture are Credit passes in four (4) relevant subjects at WAEC, NECO, National Technical Certificate, or NABTEB, at not more than two sittings or a combination of any two. Certificate Courses

A minimum of two non - credit passes in any science subjects at WAEC NECO or both

SAMARU COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE.

Admissions and Requirements
Higher National Diploma Programme in Agricultural and Bio-Environmental Engineering Technology:

The entry qualification for candidates seeking admission into the Higher National Diploma (HND) in Agricultural and Bio-Environmental Engineering Technology is a minimum of Lower Credit level pass at National Diploma in Agricultural and Bio-Environmental Engineering Technology or relevant programme plus at least one year of relevant industrial work experience in agro-allied industries and establishments The entry qualification into the National Diploma Programme in Home Economics Technology is four credit level passes at SSCE or TC II or equivalent in not more than two sittings, and a pass in the UTME

HND Pasture and Range Management
The general entry requirements for the HND programme include:-
       a)   All the requirements for admission into the ND programme in Agricultural technology, Animal Health and Production technology, Forestry technology and Wildlife management, i.e. Pass at credit level in any of the four subjects listed below in the senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE)
       i)   English Language
       ii)   Mathematics
       iii)   Biology/Agricultural Science
       iv)   Chemistry
       v)   Geography
       vi)   Physics
       vii)   Economics/Commerce
       viii)   Food and Nutrition

Candidates must also have a minimum of pass in English language, Mathematics and Chemistry or Pass at credit level in any of the subjects above from the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) or Physics at credit level and English language/Use of English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science from any of the NBTE accredited Pre-National Diploma programme

   b)   A minimum of lower credit pass (CGPA 2.50 and above) in the cognate ND examination in:-
       i)   Agricultural technology
       ii)   Animal Health and Production Technology;
       iii)   Forestry technology and
       iv)   Wildlife management
       b)   A minimum of one year cognate work experience; Or, in exceptional cases, ND diplomats with a Pass (CGPA OF 2.00 - 2.49) in the ND examination that have two or more years of cognate work experience in the specific field may be considered for admission into the HND programme
National Diploma Programme in Agric. and Bio-Environmental Engineering Tech.:

Applicants with any of the following may be considered for admission into the National Diploma Programme in Agricultural and Bio-environmental Engineering Technology:

       1)   At least a pass in English Language and Credit level passes in four subjects obtained in not more than two sittings in GCE 'O' Level, or Secondary School Certificates (SSCE). The four subjects include Mathematics, Physics, Biology/Agriculture Science or Chemistry and the other subjects.
       2)   At least a pass in English Language and four credit passes in an NBTE recognized preliminary National Diploma Course offered in a Polytechnic or similar post Secondary technical institution. The credit passes must include Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, biology.
ND Agricultural Technology Programme

The general entry requirements for the ND Agricultural Technology Programme are:

    Five credits level passes in WAEC or NECO and NABTEB in not more than two sittings.
       1)  
       2)   At least a pass in English Language and four credit passes in an NBTE recognized preliminary National Diploma Course offered in a Polytechnic or similar post Secondary technical institution. The credit passes must include Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, biology. The subjects must include Biology/Agricultural Science, Chemistry and any three of the following: Geography, Mathematics, Economics, Technical Drawing, Physics and English language. At least, a pass in English language and Mathematics is compulsory
       3)   Candidates who have successfully completed the Board's recognized pre-National diploma (Science Technology) course may be admitted into the Programme. Such students must have passed Biology/Agricultural science, Chemistry Mathematics, English language and any one of the following subjects: Economics, Technical Drawing, Physics and Geography at WASC, SSSC, GCE O'Level or NECO and NABTEB before undertaking the course
